In Pferdekreisen ist es ein gängiger Begriff .

Handles on Doors... not "Handys", Why ever German people say "Handy" for mobile telephones ?
In English language countries the word "Handy" means other things they're easy to do.
And some door-handles are having this style of cylinder build into.

Yes. handy means nützlich or geschickt. A "Handy" is a mobile phone, cell phone, cellular phone, en français un portable, auf Hebräisch ein Pelefon (Wunderfon).

An early mobile phone (somewhat portable, with a handle) was called "Porty", when they became smaller and we're fitting into a hand, people started calling them "Handy"
